Weekly Showcase - April 26th 2023

Updated: Jun 24, 2023

Well I hope you've been enjoying these showcases as much as I have putting them together. We've seen a whole host of wonderful eclectic works from different artists and creators, and there's always more to come!

Our first piece today is perhaps one of my favourites of all time. Looking at the model itself, the paint job is incredibly clean, with expert colour theory and the blending utilised on the octopus warms my eyes. But the basing really gets my eyes hot and provides a few questions; is he summoning those hands, or are the hands coming for him? Will the octopus defend him or is it also coming for him? I don't know, and I like not knowing. Truly a unique special take on an Idoneth model, and I'd love to see a whole army like this. Please go check out Peta's page and her other work or watch out for those hands!

What a complicated, creepy conversion we have going on here! I'll advise you straight off the bat to go and have a look at Hussaini's page because if you're a fan of the weird and wonderful, you're in for the biggest treat of your life. He takes models, and turns them into glorious freak shows. I'd love to get a good look inside his mind, because the imagination it takes to create the spectacles he comes up with is on another level. If you want to find it difficult to sleep again, and find comfort in the unsettling, please go and have a look!

Many of you may already know of Tyler from Mengel Miniatures for the excellent paintjobs and informative painting guides, but I had to include this piece. A very simple idea, but simplicity is often more beautiful. Of course the painting is fantastic and clean, but the moody atmosphere just sings from this piece. And again, all so simple to create such a profound feeling! Tyler was one of the first artists I came across when starting my painting journey and he has unknowingly and unwillingly inspired me to keep going. If you'd like the same, check his page out!

I haven't featured any 40k as of yet, as my interest in painting mainly lies in fantasy. However, this artist has been catching my eye for a little while now, and that's almost exclusively down to the name plates on the bases. The paint job is great, and the basing is very cool, but it's the name plates that are warming my cold heart. There's something very sweet, loving and parental about naming a model, almost like an emperor penguin father, clutching the egg of it's unborn emperor penguin child for two months, going without any food in brutally freezing weather. Yes, exactly like that. You'll see what I mean if you go check out his page, and feel the parental care for his models for yourself!

That's all for this week folks. Hopefully you've enjoyed seeing what I have, and feel a little inspired in some way to paint something you've been putting off, start building that little bastard of a model, or just do something generally good with your life. I don't know, I'm not you, I don't know what you need to be getting on with, but I'm sure it's something. Get off my case and get back on yours!
