Hello and a very merry welcome to my first of hopefully many blogs. This
first entry will explain a little about how I got into painting Warhammer and explain what I'd like to do with future content.
I started my miniature painting journey last year in February, when a friend bought me a little D&D model as a not very funny joke. Well it turns out that I had the last laugh, because I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of painting it far more than I, or my friend, could ever have anticipated. Looking back at that model now, it is truly a miracle that I didn't pack it all in right there, as I think we can all agree that it looks like I've placed it in the microwave for 17 seconds, tied it to the back of a dirt bike on a rainy day, and let it pass through the digestive system of a slightly annoyed horse.
I was aware of the existence of Games Workshop, as I used to collect the Middle Earth: Strategy Battle Game magazines when I was a mere child, and stared in awe at the painted models and scenes being depicted, knowing I'd never be able to build and paint to a standard like that. So I decided it was time to have a look at what Games Workshop had to offer. I had just recently got into playing Total War: Warhammer 2 and so thought Warhammer would be a good place to start. Unfortunately, it seemed like I'd missed the boat on the fantasy side of
things, as Warhammer had moved into Age of Sigmar, meaning I did not recognise many of the available models. The one faction that I did, however, and coincidently my favourite on Total War, was Seraphon (or the lizardmen). Thus started my painting career, and the rest is history. These models were painted only a couple of months after my first, and that improvement, care and knowledge I had gained in the short space of time, made me realise this was something I could do happily and well, as long as I continued to work on my ability. Comparing my most recent finished model, to even these guys, let alone that first horrific attempt, only continues to drive me forward, especially as it has only been a little over a year since I started!
But enough about me! The real reason I want to start these blogs, is to showcase the wonderful artwork that I have had the joy of witnessing over the last year or so via Instagram. Through seeing other people's works, I was able to take the plunge deeper into this hobby, and whenever I feel at a loss with motivation and inspiration, all it takes is to have a quick scroll through the many talented painters to put me back on track.
This is why I would like to help contribute to this shared pool of motivation and inspiration, by writing weekly blogs, showcasing some of the works I have seen that week. I will be reaching out to the people I'd like to feature, from what I've seen with my own two eyes, but I'd love for people to reach out to me if they've got something they would like to show off themselves. If this is truly to be a shared pool, then we must all share it in all forms. Unity is truly the only way for humans to evolve, and I am more than happy to be the martyr, if you will allow me. (though truth be told, I'd rather not die over it if possible).
So, if you would like to be featured, then please just send me a picture of said miniature or terrain, or diorama, or whatever, so that I can feature it in a future blog. I'm very much looking forward to being further inspired by far too much majestic miniature artwork for my brain to be able to handle!
