Hello and a festive welcome to all you people out there. I've found it very difficult to feel any sense of a festive spirit this year, with all sorts of personal difficulties, as well as the fact that the U.K is currently in a very depressing state.
I've tried wrapping myself in wreaths whilst juggling baubles, but alas, to no avail. Before I take the next drastic step and start pumping mulled wine into my veins, I thought there was something I could maybe do to feel and share a little festive spirit.
Rae once again, acting as my informant for all things within the community, let me know about a charity raffle that warmed my heart. Homelessness is a huge problem here in the U.K, and it pains me to see so many people sleeping rough as the temperatures here plummet. I've had a few scares this year that have almost left me homeless, and that reality has made me far more concerned about the way our government and country (and bloody rent increasing landlords) seem to treat those in really difficult financial situations.
So to see someone within the miniature painting community, raising awareness and money towards this cause, is something we should all absolutely get behind.
Ashley Metcalfe of @ministryofminipainting has set up a charity raffle, to raise money for Shelter, who are a U.K based non-profit charity, campaigning for tenants rights in Great Britain, supporting those who are homeless and at risk of homelessness. For many homeless people in the U.K, Shelter are their only line of support. Ashley has very graciously provided 5 prizes in the form of miniatures to be won, as an extra incentive to look deep into your heart. All you have to do to enter is to donate to Shelter via Ashley's fundraiser, with each £5 donation acting as one entry. Most people in this country are currently in hard times, but those living it rough have it worse than anyone else, which is why they need your support, no matter how much that may be.
The deadline for this is only a few days away on the 17th of December, with the draw taking place on the following day. If the notion that your help is providing somebody with the support they desperately need isn't enough, then let the incentive of being in for a chance to win a really cool prize from a talented miniature painter, be enough to turn the heating on in your heart. And just maybe, those on the streets will soon be able to also turn the heating on with a roof over their heads.
Merry Christmas one and all, and let's remember to display compassion whenever and wherever we can. We are all humans, and we all have the potential to make or break eachother. Let's make sure it's the former this Christmas. Thank you for reading, and thank you Ashley for setting up such a wonderful fundraiser.
